Pat Flynn $3000 pm Case Study on Starting a Blog For Profit

I have been a follower of Pat Flynn of smart passive income blog. Back in 2010 Pat showed his readers that it is possible to start a blog for profit. He built a website in one year that is now earning near $3000 a month.

Starting On August 2nd, 2010, Pat created a new website, targeting security guard training niche. One and half years later the blog was bringing in almost $3000 in blog profit.

How Pat Flynn Did It

These are the things Pat did to build a successful blog that brings $3K in profit per month.

Finding a Profitable Niche

He went into markets that people are interested in. Using Google keyword tool, he found out whether or not there are any related keyword terms that have a somewhat high search volume, and relatively low competition. This is the best chance of getting on the first page of Google, while still seeing enough traffic to do something worthy.

Adding Keywords on Domain Name

Part went after security guard training niche and his domain name was http://www.securityguardtraininghq.com.

Writing Great Content

Focusing quality vs quantity he hired a writer to write articles on security guard training requirements for every state in USA. The blog has less than 150 post and it is pulling $3K a month.

Back Linking Strategy

I think this is the one factor that is 90% responsible for success. Pat submitted his blog and artciles to:-
  1. Top Article Directories
  2. New Blogs
  3. Web 2.0 Properties
  4. Blog Networks

The fourth (blog networks) is a bit controversial because I think it runs foul of Google policy against buying links. It can bring instant results but once Google catches up you, expect a Google penalty.

It is very unlikely that the majority starting a blog for profit will see similar success. For most of us we will need to be diligent, persistence and patient with our blogs.
