20 Free Tips On How To Increase Website Traffic

When it comes to online business they say you live and die by traffic. The following free tips will teach you how to increase traffic to your website or blog.

1. Announce Your Blog on Facebook and Twitter
Start with people nearest to you. Reach out to your friends on Facebook / twitter and ask them to share your website with friends.

2. Read and Comment on related blogs.
Look for blogs where your target visitors hang out. Leave thoughtful comments on them. The readers will click on your link and in the process increase traffic to your website.

3. Join Forums In Your Niche
Join forums related to your niche. To find a forum in your niche go to Google and search, "forum:your niche." Forums allow you to have a link pointing to your website. The best way to increase traffic to your website from a forum is by presenting yourself as an expert. If other members see you as a good pro they will be inclined to visit your website.

4. Offer Value
Nothing increases website traffic more than value. Consider writing posts with resources or explaining how things work.

5. Inform Search Engines when you post fresh content
Inform search engines and aggregators using the ping functionality when your blog is updated, this should ensure maximum traffic coming from those sources. See pingomatic.

6. Write More Content
Increase your website traffic by writing more often. Keep a writing schedule of at least one article per day.

7.  Join You Tube
Youtube.com is the number two search engine after Google. Do video versions of your articles and make sure you add a link to your website at the end. Use the video to tease the viewer by promising him/her he will get more information when he visits your website/blog.

8. Start an Email list
Nothing creates long-term website/blog traffic more than email. If you can have 100 people sign up to receive email updates when you make a blog post, it means 100 people will read your article. Imagine what it means to your website if your can have 1000 or 10,000 people on your email list?

9. Be controversial
I don't like being controversial but I have seen evidence that websites and blogs that write about controversial issues get massive traffic. Think of drudge report and huffington post.

10. Keep things simple
Attention span of most web users is low. Internet users don't like reading 5,000 words article. Look for long and complex articles and write shortened versions.

11. Boost Pageviews
A simple trick that will boost your pageviews is installing related post plugins. This plugins pull articles related to an article and list them at the bottom of a post.

12. Blog Carnivals
Submit articles to blog carnivals (http://blogcarnival.com) that are related to your niche. Your article almost always gets posted, and it must generate a handful of visitors, at least.

13. Be first to post breaking news
You will be listed on page one of Google news every time you are the first to post breaking news. Stay in the loop in your niche and try to be the first to cover any new/fresh content.

14. Link exchange with related blogs.
Link exchanging with other blogs can offer you a big help to increase your search engine ranking plus getting referral traffic. Just make sure you don't over do it because google has a habit of punishing those who over do it.

15. Don't forget offline
A great tip on how to increase website traffic is leveraging your off-line marketing effort. Include your url in all your off-line liturature from business cards, letterheads, pamphlets and adverts.

16. Never Neglect your Blog/website
Search engines love website that remain active. Don't stay still, keep your website updated with new and fresh content and you will continously see an increase in website traffic.

17. Encourage others to Tweet your articles.
Twitter is a site that lets people share articles, on whether people like them or not. Your readers will most likely tweet your work for you if you politely ask, or even better, add a Twitter button at the bottom of all your posts. Make sure your best articles get tweeted and started in the right direction, and if the post is good enough, it can generate thousands of visitors a day.

18. Share your articles on facebook
Start a facebook page for your website / blog. Add facebook buttons at the bottom of all your posts and ask readers to share.

19. Write list posts.
We all love list posts. This post is a list post. Examples are “Top 10 web hosting companies”, “7 tips I use to get repeat visitors”, and “6 e-commerce wordpress templates”. List posts are usually linked to a lot more and get a lot more traffic than normal posts.

20. Write a pillar post.
A pillar post is a long, authoritative, instructional post. Pillar posts are time consuming but they are worth the time and effort. Pillar posts will get linked to and receive decent amounts of traffic.

Tactics I Use To Get Repeat Visitors To My Blog Site

One of the hardest thing in blogging is to get repeat visitors. The visitors who visit your site for the first time and they keep returning for more.

I use the following tactics to get repeat visitors to my blog sites.

1. Staying Relevant

Many people make mistake of promoting so many affiliate products at the expense of writing useful articles. I try to always stay relevant with topics that are useful and informative.

2. Being Specific

General and broad subjects are hard to cover for most blogs.  If a site is about playing better golf, i don't chime in with my opinions on NBA.

Narrowing your topic helps you reach specific readers that are 100% focused on that particular topic.  These people will come back every day to see what you have to offer.

3. Plan for Months Not Days

I have a blog editorial calendar that stretches 2 months in advance.

Planning months in advance allows you to be smart about topic selection.  You’ll be able to see natural ways to group your blog posts and create a steady, consistent rhythm.  This planning results in steady repeat traffic.

4. Hang Out with Your readers on Facebook and Twitter

Don't use Facebook and other social media as just outlets to churn out your content. I make sure I show up and actively participate on those platforms.

5. Connect with Regular Readers

I make an effort to know my regular readers. If they live comments on my blog, I reach out to them via email or a comment in their blogs.  The first contact is just to say a big thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. This personal connection helps cement authentic relationships and create opportunities for partnering and sharing resources.

6. Publish Consistently

It’s difficult to build a repeat readership with a sporadic publishing schedule.  Pick a publishing frequency and schedule and stick with it.  Your consistency says that you care about your reader’s time and you take your blog seriously.

Food Blog Traffic Secrets From 9 Yr Old Food Blogger With 2 Million Hits

Getting traffic to a blog is hard work but a 9 year old food blogger made it look so easy when she got two million hits in unbelievable 6 weeks of blogging.

The nine-year-old blogger is Martha Payne from Scotland. Martha set up a blog as a writing project and to help raise money for a school-meals charity and then she did something that brought a flood of visitors.

Martha Food Blog Traffic Tips

The girl  started posting images of uninspiring school meals — one consisted of two croquettes, a plain cheeseburger, three slices of cucumber and a lollipop — These images drew international attention.

One of the food pictures.

Martha, who lives in the coastal town of Lochgilphead, about 210 kilometres west of Edinburgh, gave each meal a “food-o-meter” rating, and offered an assessment of its contents.
“I’d really like to know where the chicken comes from,” she wrote in one entry about having chicken fajitas for lunch, “so I am going to write to the lady in charge to ask. I know it comes from a hen but I’d like to know where the hen lived.”

As she garnered fame and attention, major newspapers started writing about her food blog and linked to her blog.

Local officials weren’t amused, and ordered the schoolgirl to stop taking pictures.

In a statement, Argyll and Bute Council said Payne’s photos were misleading and had caused distress to cafeteria staff. The council was particularly irked by a report about the blog in Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper headlined Fire the Dinner Ladies.

No news is bad news
The ban quickly became an online talking point, with free speech group the Index on Censorship even weighing in on Payne’s behalf. Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver tweeted “Stay strong Martha” to his more than 2 million followers.

The controversy only helped to make her  food blog more famous. Attracting curious web users eager to know who is this 9 year old food blogger.

Lesson here is, to get traffic to your food blog, post unique images ( no one was posting images of unappetizing food before Martha came around. Cause controversy, people like talking and reading about controversial issue.  If you can embed this ideas to your blog, expect a flood of web traffic to your site.

How I Use Youtube Videos To Drive More Traffic To My Websites

The reason why I focus on creating Youtube videos is because Youtube behaves like a search engine. When people want to get information on a certain topic they go to Google to find and read about it. But for some people reading is not enough, they want to watch and listen to someone explain things. This type of people use Youtube to digest information. If you are not targeting this type of web users you are losing on free traffic.

To target this Youtube users, I upload short videos on Youtube. The videos content is on short tutorials that can be explained in under 4 minutes. The big challenge on Youtube is how to get the viewer to visit your website.

These are the things I do to get viewers of my Youtube Videos To visit My sites and blogs.

1. Have a link at the description. After uploading the videos I make sure I add a detailed relevant description. My intro is "This video is produced and provided by Kicker Hosting, for more free videos visit www.kickerhosting.com"

2. Introduce your website quickly at the beginning of the video (just quickly in a branded intro) so that users know who made the video and have your brand in their head. If you videos is eye catching they will know where to find you.

3. Wear Branded T-shirts. I don't show my face on my videos but if you are comfortable appearing on your youtube videos, wear a T-shirt with your website URL on the front.

5. Keep the Youtube Videos Short - The truth is online audiences have a short attention spun. Few people are persistence and patient enough to watch and listen to a 1 hour video presentation. A long video will bore them and make them switch to another Youtube video.

4. Call To Action At The end. Am never shy at the end. I ask the viewer to visit my site. e.g. To find out more on this topic visit: www.mysitehere.com.

5.Showcase Other Free Videos. Weave mentions of your other free tutorials into the script of the video (make sure it is relevant and appropriate).

To Your success!

For a new website to attract traffic, the first assignment is to understand the Niche/Product / Service What kind of people are you building the website for? You’ve to truly understand what competitions lie ahead and there is no shortcut on it.

It’s not enough to know the problem this people face; you’ve to understand what got them into this problem in the first place. Prospects do not want to know the pain they’re going through; instead, what they’re after is to get rid of the symptoms. Does it make sense?
If you can understand your niche, attracting targeted traffic won’t be difficult. Think about it?

2. Use Google Keyword Tool To Do Research On Visitors You want To Attract to Your New Site
The best organic traffic comes from Google.  Make use of there free tool. When you log in into Google Keyword tool you can enter your target keywords and Google will give you a full list of keywords related to your keyword. For example, if your new website is about selling shoes online and you enter "shoes" you will see stuff like
  • Black shoes
  • black leather shoes

  • etc.
This kind of information is important because it will show you how your target customers think and you can tailor your website content accordingly.

Once you understand your potential customers, go ahead and weave it into your content. Use the questions they ask as your headline and start the introduction with it. Use the same question within your content and in your third paragraph, solve the problem creatively and command action. Never allow your visitors to leave without taking action – it’s a waste of time and resources.

One method of getting links is writing guest posts for blogs related to your niche. Search Google for your primary keyword and research the ‘top 10’ results. Contact the blog owners and propose to write for them. You’ll definitely be turned down by most bloggers, but don’t give up. Gear up your steps and move to the next blog. Tips On Promoting Your Website / Blog On Google Search Engine

Keywords That You Use in Your post/Articles are very important
In promoting your website or blog it’s all about landing on the first page of search engine websites such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. And in order to do this, the use of relevant keywords that are strategically placed within the site is very important.

Another good way to promote your website is to share information and valuable content through article directories. The most effective directories are enzine articles, amazine and isnare. Why Your New Blogger Blog Is Not Getting Traffic

I started this blog on blogger and after two weeks on writing daily post, I wasn't seeing any traffic from Google search. My post were well optimized for search engine and the Google web master tool showed I was getting the impressions (people searching on Google were seeing the post) but for some reason they were not clicking.

I decided to do a search of my blog on Google and I immediately knew what the problem was. The posts on my Blogger were doing very poorly in a Google search because the title of each post had the blog title in front of it.

My blog is Small Business Website Hosting Articles, and every post I did had the blog title in the front like this: Small Business Website Hosting Articles: How To Set Up a Cheap Business Website. Any one doing a Google search could see the the blog title but the post title was pushed back.

I had been been blogging on wordpress for three years and I knew the power of well optimized post. It seemed, Google the owners of blogger had set the defaults to be the title of each post had the blog title in front of it. This is very bad for search traffic because searchers will not see your individual posts.

Removing the Blog Title From Your Post Title

Wordpress makes it easy to change such things but I did'nt know how to do this on blogger. I found a Google advice from this blogger.

Changing the Template HTML of Your Blogger Blog

From your Blogger dashboard, go to the design page, then press edit html. First, you will want to backup your template in case something goes wrong, and to do that you press the download full template button so you have a backup on your computer.

From his site he will show you the code to delete. You delete that code, and replace it with the one he will show you.
